Resist

What we resist, persists.

We set the intention in yoga today to notice where we meet resistance. Noticing when we resist in the muscles or in certain poses, and also where we resist in the mind.
For example if you resist, or avoid being angry, you are ALWAYS angry. If you resist sadness, you are always sad. You think you resist certain emotions because they are there but actually they seem to exist because you avoid them.

When you are met with resistance it’s only natural to want to either lean in and push against it or to run and flee. Instead, try to sit with the resistance for a breath or two, then decide how you want to act. Pull back or lean in.

Where are you resisting? Take a break, sit down and close your eyes and relax. Then bring to mind what you’ve been resisting. Take a few deep breaths and sit with it. What action feels necessary? What’s the opposite to that action? How does the result of each action feel? Give yourself more breath and see if this is resistance you should lean in to or perhaps one you need to surrender and walk away.
